The horse moved on slowly, along the country road
Pulling behind it the beautiful caravan, that was its accustomed load
The woman held on to the reins, while sitting by its door
Enjoying the sights that slowly passed her, as though she’d never seen them before
She softly hummed along to a song, that only she could hear
While Watching the scenery nature offered, at this time of the year
The fields were full of new born lambs, and there were young calves too
For it was Spring, which was the season of rebirth, she knew
The trees that had been bare all Winter, were growing leaves of green
Something she knew was amazing to see, no matter how many times it was seen
Along the road there was a hedge (some parts were green, but others bare)
And as she looked near it’s base, she was sure she saw a hare
She smiled to herself as she moved on, and sighed a happy sigh
While the sun smiled back at her, from the pure blue sky
Not every day was like this. She knew that fact was true
Not every day held sunshine, and a sky of purest blue
Some days the rain soaked her to the skin, and she shivered from the cold
Some days – despite being young – her joints ached like those of the old
There were times when storms raged over head
And she shivered in her bed
But she knew, no matter what
She wouldn’t give up this life… No she would not!
For all the days when the sun shone, and the air smelled sweet
Made up for all the days when, there was rain, hail, snow, or sleet
And all the days when she was warm
Made up for every cold Winter storm
So it was with a light heart, and a contented smile
That she found a clearing in a field, where they could rest a while
She made camp and fed the horse
Then she fed herself, of course
After that she settled in
For the night with her knitting
And when her head began to droop
She finished up her mug of soup
Then checked the horse would be alright
Before settling down to sleep for the night
The sounds of nature still filled her head
As she snuggled up in her bed
This was the way she liked it to be
It made her feel alive and free
